Victorian Tariffs to be Cut

 

Incentives for Victorian households to install rooftop solar panels would be slashed under a shake-up proposed by the state government’s productivity adviser. In a draft review released last week, the Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission (VCEC) recommended that energy companies be mostly free to set the price paid to households for solar power they feed back into the electricity grid.

Melbourne’s outer west has the most solar energy in the state, a new report has revealed, with solar panels in Caroline Springs, Deer Park, Hoppers Crossing, Truganina, Mount Cottrell, Eynesbury and surrounding suburbs accounting for about 50 per cent of all panels in Victoria.

Energy Minister Peter Collier has blamed a breakdown in communication with energy provider Synergy for the $46 million solar scheme cost blow out.
