With the aim to accelerate renewable energy infrastructure, promote smart industry, jobs and investment, and develop stronger partnerships and links.  The Queensland Renewable Energy plan refocuses Queensland’s renewable energy agenda to meet the government’s 2020 renewable energy goals.

In 2009, the Queensland Government released the QREP (Queensland Renewable Energy Plan), government’s vision for Queensland’s clean energy sector to 2020.  The QREP’s goal is to secure Queensland’s share of investment and jobs under the national Renewable Energy Target by accelerating the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure throughout the state.

In 2011 the Queensland Government reviewed the QREP, taking into account the growth of the sector as well the new international climate change policies.

Through the revised plan, the Queensland Government will continue to promote the state as a major player for new Australian Government funding and premier location for private investment in renewable projects.

The 2012 QREP goal is to achieve 9000 gigawatt hours of renewable energy before 2020.  Delivering this goal will will assist leverage up to $8.9 billion in new investment, create up to 3500 jobs and reduce greenhouse gas emmissions by up to 40 million tonnes within the next 10 years.
