A new mile stone has been achieved for sustainability in Australia after Queensland’s Sunshine Coast TAFE has become the first educational institution in Australia to be certified carbon-neutral.
Deputy Prime Minister Wayne Swan presented the certificate and plaque to the Mooloolaba TAFE College last Thursday during his visit to Queensland.
“It’s number 23 in the organisations that have joined the carbon-neutral network, but it’s in fact the first educational institution to be declared carbon-neutral,” she said.
“That’s really important because they’ve been able to achieve that and actually achieve reductions in their operating costs, while they’re still rapidly expanding and that’s a terrific achievement.”
