A 2010 survey by solar installation company Sun Connect has revealed that Australians are finally taking advantage of the country’s sunshine and going solar.

As installation prices drop and grid electricity prices soar, Aussies are turning to solar and other renewable energy solutions in overwhelming numbers.

The 2,000 customers surveyed by Sun Connect were located throughout Australia with the majority in urban areas; all had recently made the switch to solar.

Respondents gave several reasons for switching to solar with increasing energy costs rated highest with environmental concerns following in second.

Others cited friends and increasing their home-value as drive for going solar.

Further questioning identified concerns over future electricity prices as the primary driver with 90 per cent of respondents expressing worry.

All customers recorded a drop in their electricity bills since going solar with 42 per cent also receiving money through the Australian Government’s solar rebate program.

The survey concluded that while Australians are very proud and willing to help the environment, it is those monetary motivations which get us moving faster.
