Alice Springs has been celebrated as one of Australia’s most solar-efficient towns thanks to a new solar installation on the Araluen Art Centre’s roof.
The 162 kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system will generate 330 megawatts of electricity, saving the area up to 231 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
Sam Latz, general manager from Alice Solar City says the project is a collaboration of efforts between the Federal Government, Crowne Plaza, Alice Springs Airport, Alice Springs Aquatic & Leisure Centre and the Uterne Solar Power Station.
“This region now sources 10 per cent of its daytime electricity from solar, that’s enough to power more than 39 Alice Springs homes,” said Mr Latz.
“This is a very exciting part of the Alice Solar City legacy, and we congratulate the Northern Territory Government and the team at Araluen on maintaining their commitment to Araluen becoming an energy efficient and solar powered centre for the Arts in Alice Springs.”
