Nissan is teaming up with Car Charging Group, Inc. to introduce free car charging for electric vehicles.

The total production of electric vehicles is projected to jump by 67 per cent in 2014. This means electric vehicles consisting of plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles will increase to about 403,000 units. Last year, there were only 242,000 EVs produced worldwide.

The increase in electric vehicle production is the reaction of car manufacturers to the implementation of tighter emission standards all over the world especially in Europe. With such regulations, conventional vehicles running on gas and diesel cannot possibly make the grade.

Nissan Expands Electric Vehicle Opportunities

Car manufacturer Nissan is taking advantage of this surge in electric vehicle demand by partnering with Car Charging Group, Inc. CCGI is the largest operator, provider and owner of charging devices for electric vehicles.

Blink Network, a subsidiary of CCGI announced that they are participating in the “No Charge to Charge” program of Nissan. This program is now being offered in 10 of the biggest LEAF markets of the car company.

The participating areas include Dallas-Ft. Worth TX, Nashville TN, Phoenix AZ, San Diego CA, and Seattle WA and Seattle DC.

The “No Charge to Charge” program gives LEAF car owners the chance to charge their electric vehicle for free. Each of these car owners will be given an EZ-Charge card which they will use to access the five major charging facilities of the network.

Participating establishments include AeroVironment, CarCharging, Blink Network, NRG eVgo and Charge Point. The car industry is benefitted by this program since more drivers will have confidence in switching from conventional cars to electric vehicles.

LEAF owners are the ones who will benefit the most since they will be able to access more charging stations than before. For instance, they will receive 30 minutes of free charging at participating DC Fast charging stations.

If they are eligible at Level 2 charging stations, they can even charge their electric vehicles for 1 hour, free of charge, for a period of two years. Only after the promotion period will they be required to pay charging fees at standard rates.

But before enjoying this “No Charge to Charge” privilege, participants and drivers are requested by Nissan and Blink Network to read the information regarding the details of the program thoroughly. There are terms and conditions that regulate the program which they need to know.

The information materials related to the program are distributed wherever the participant registers himself. This is to ensure that the implementation and monitoring of the program will be organized and according to plan.

Even those who bought their Nissan LEAF in the past can avail of this “No Charge to Charge” program. By including those who have purchased their LEAF on or after April 1, 2014, CCGI anticipates at least 15 more markets will be added next year.

Car Charging Group, Inc. has been pioneering in public electric vehicle charging services. They aim to make it easy for electric vehicle drivers to access charging stations all over the United States. By doing this, they hope to fast-track the acceptability of public electric vehicle charging.
