There is a new, although odd jewellery that you can connect to your blood veins and enable you to harvest energy from the blood flowing in your body. Strange, but true, this jewel energy extractor is the brainchild of industrial designer Naomi Kizhner.
Naomi is a graduate student from Hadassah College in Jerusalem. She has designed jewellery that theoretically extracts energy from a person’s own body. The unique trinket is embedded into the wearer’s veins and uses his blood to turn small wheels inside the ornament.
What the energy harvesting jewellery represents
The jewellery, according to Naomi, is not meant to be a practical energy source, but only a conversation piece “about how far will we go to in order to ‘feed’ our addiction in the world of declining resources.”
She developed this unique jewel energy extractor under the project “Energy Addicts.” The jewellery actually consists of three separate pieces, the Blinker, the E-Pulse Conductor and the Blood Bridge.
The energy harvester in her jewellery is the Blinker. It is designed to extract energy from every blink of the wearer’s eyelids. The trinket is made from elegant gold shell that cups the arc of the nose. It has a biopolymer cover and a micro energy cell where the harvested energy is stored.
The blood is sucked by the E-Pulse Conductor which is inserted into the veins near the person’s spine and picks up electrical pulses. The Blood Bridge is a type of decorative bypass that generates energy as your blood flows through the wheel to let it turn. These two devices are secured with clinical glue to the body, which is flushed against the flesh.
“The work delves into a world in which there is a significant decline, which forces humanity to seek all the more forcefully for alternative ways of cultivating power,” states Naomi on her website.
“The suggested solution to the dilemma is based on the idea of biological wealth, harvesting energy directly from the body,” she adds.
Kizhner’s energy harvesting jewellery is not without critics
Some observers think that this is going too far. They observed that there are really many creations in the jewellery industry that are avant-garde, but by far, the creation of Naomi Kizhner, according to them, is the weirdest.
In fact, the trinket can generate very little energy to be considered a practical energy source. It will not be able to even charge electronic gizmos and gadgets.
Naomi describes herself as “a trend theorist that is looking to define the new black – practicing everyday escapism.”
She published in her website that her final project, Energy Addicts, “seeks to deal with questions of how to see the world, based primarily on biological energy, and what the meaning of biological capital is when the accrual is contingent on biological data.”
Kizhner poses a question to the world regarding energy consumption
Naomi asks: “What would happen to our ethical constructs if the person is actually a natural resource?”
On her website, visitors can view a video accompanying the project depicting this future world, in which women sit, lethargically, with their breathing measured and deep, and presumably depicting how every exertion is being quantified.
