Most homes are aware of the importance of recycling, as it saves the planet and also teaches our kids that not everything is disposable, as well as the importance of not wasting. However, some innovative home-owners from around the globe have taken the word recycling to another whole level by actually building their (might I add incredible) homes with recycled materials. Glass, plastic bottles and even egg cartons are some of the materials that are being used.

These homes are anything but average and look astounding to everyone that comes across them. Below you will find amazing environmentally-friendly homes built most with recyclable materials, allowing for inspiration all round.

The Upside Down Boat House

The recycled material home below has utilised an old unused boat and flipped it around to become a sweet little house. The boat was found along the shore in Lindisfarne, England.

Home Constructed Out Of Grain Silos

The grain silo home is very modern looking and is built entirely out of older grain silos. It’s so cool it almost looks like some kind of kick-ass space ship model.

Plastic Bottle Home

Located in Puerto Iguazu, Argentina, the family of Alfredo Santa Cruz built their lovely home completely out of plastic bottles which they had collected over various years.

The Egg Carton Home

Built in sunny Australia, the egg carton home below was built utilising recycled egg cartons. The egg carton home was modeled after Howard Arkley’s well-known painting, Family Home: Surburban Exterior 1993, which was considered the Australian dream of suburban living.

Glass Bottle Residence

Living in a glass house must be a fairy-tale for some, though one must be careful not to cast the first stone in case everything shatters. The view from such a homestead whilst having the sun shining is truly something to behold.

Wooden Arrays

Though the wooden home below is not as easy on the eyes as the above houses, it certainly is easier on the pockets, costing around just $500 to build. Not a bad investment for a home of your own.

Corn On The Cob

The innovative food based home below is located within the park lands of Muttersholtz in France. It was designed by an architectural firm called St. André-Lang, and the cost of construction was around $8, 800.

Spare Airplane Parts

This home is truly a piece of futuristic art which wouldn’t look out of place in a Jetson’s episode. Made out of airplane parts, this type of home proves you don’t always have to scour your local junk yard in order to find treasured recyclable materials.

Corrugated Fiber

Corrugated Fibre-board is quite difficult to recycle or breakdown. In order to prove the materials viability, a team of university students created this small, functional, environmentally friendly building.

Beer Cans For Sale

The owner of this truly inspirational beer can home in Houston, Texas, was the brainchild of the home owner, John. He decided that beer cans were the easiest source of recycled material to build an alternative type home. He was so proud of his construction that he decided it didn’t even need a paint job. It’s estimated over 50,000 cans were used.
