Thousands of households in Queensland seem to be missing out on a lifetime opportunity to save more on their power bills with the electricity rebate. Time is money and the choices that consumers make today will determine their electricity costs in the future.
Earlier this year, alterations made by the Palaszczuk Government to include Commonwealth Health Care Card holders and asylum-seekers, provided for an additional 157,000 people that qualify for an annual electricity rebate of $330 per year, rising to $340.85 for 2017-18. Surprisingly, less than one in 10 of those eligible to apply for the free cash have send applications through their power retailers.
“I’m concerned Health Care Card holders don’t know the rebate exists to help them, so we will be ramping up our push to ensure eligible Queenslanders know about the entitlement,” Treasurer Curtis Pitt stated.
For any customer that applies before December, the rebate will be backdated to January.
“The Palaszczuk Government understands the pressure electricity prices has on Queenslanders,’’ added Mr Pitt.
Already, a whole $1.16 billion was being channeled into the industry in a bet to keep electricity prices down. These investment efforts include instructing the government-owned Energy Queensland to cut its network charges by $770 million over the next three years by simply scrapping the cost of the solar bonus scheme from power bills. That move helped share out the probable increase in electricity bills to 3.3 per cent, the lowest rate of any mainland state.
In a contrary statement, the LNP leader Tim Nicholls said: “We all know that businesses and families are paying more with Labor’s hidden tax on their power bills – a 70 per cent increase in wholesale power prices over the last two years – and it’s making life really hard.”
Solar Panel Xpress are at the forefront of the battle against rising Queensland Electricity prices, assisting consumers in South East Queensland save thousands through renewable energy technology and the electricity rebate.
